Straight off into sightseeing first thing in the morning. We hit Westminster Cathedral first which was closest to our accommodation in London. Make sure if you are there to go inside as it is really impressive.
Then we were off to Buckingham Palace which was a short hop, skip and jump from the Cathedral. Just from my point of view, the Palace is not as big as I thought it would be but it is iconic and is worth seeing. We were there just before the changing of the guards so there were a lot of tourists everywhere.
We had a nice leisurely walk through St James’s park on our way to the Horse Guard parade. Make sure you take a few photos with the horses. Close to here is 10 Downing Street but it now secured by guards behind big fences.
After taking a few photos, we headed to Churchill War Rooms museum. Now this is definitely worth a visit. Very historic and you makes you feel part of history. Make sure you listen to the full audio as you walk around as it really gives you a sense of what they went through during the Second World War.
Then we were off to see Big Ben, Westminster Abbey, Parliament Buildings and all the other amazing sites all quite closely located together. For lunch we stopped at Tattershall Castle which is a floating restaurant across the Thames from the London Eye.
We then moved up to Trafalgar Square, then after viewing the sights there, moved on to Graphic Bar for a paint tin drink, and cocktail. Make sure you give the paint tin drinks a try as they are fabulous.
We had a look around the shops and made a point of visiting two of their finest, Selfridges and Harrod’s. It is amazing to see how these stores cater to and indulge the rich!
After a long day, we surmised that London is really easy to get around on foot without the need to use the Tube (Underground).
