Smithfield is a where the old meat market district is but it is a great place to do a pub crawl. We started off here at Ferrari’s Snack Bar and had a full cooked English Breakfast (now you can do this at the start or the end).
We headed over to the Fox and Anchor where you need to have either a pint or a GnT and don’t forget to have a scotch egg which “boasts to be the tastiest scotch eggs in the country”.
Then on to Charterhouse Bar for a few cocktails at happy hour where the staff is really friendly and the cocktails are good.
Once finished, head through the meat market and check out the history on the way to The Cocktail Trading Co. This is a hidden bar so head inside and go down the stairs on the right (just check the time on google for when it is opens). The barman offered to make us a cocktail so we took what was on offer and both cocktails were great. We could have stayed here but we were on a mission.
So off to The Hope Tavern for another pint or a GnT. Not a long stay and then we head down to Cubana Bar. We recommend Mojitos here and the service is good and fast.
Second to last stop was Ye Olde Mitre. Now, if you look this up on google it looks great. Just don’t go there at 5pm if you are looking for those photos you see on the net. All the suits turn up and you can hardly move but still worth a look.
And finally City Of London Distillery (COLD) which isn’t really in Smithfield but just a 2 min walk. Now this place is worth a visit as they have great cocktails made with there own gin. The staff make an effort. Hope they keep it up. We would have stayed here but we had a prior engagement we needed to make (dinner at Heston Blumenthal’s restaurant).
All in all Smithfield was a great place for a bar/pub crawl.
